CANON & HISTORY: Persona 5 | Wake up, Get up, Get Out There | Life Will Change

CANON POINT: After the 6th palace, directly after escaping the metaverse and Joker's arrest.

PERSONALITY:

Okumura Haru is a young woman who grew up wanting for nothing. But this came at a heavy price for her, her freedom. What is known about Haru right off the bat is that she is a young woman who grew up under the care of her father, the CEO of the wealthy family company “Okumura Foods”. She was expected to be completely obedient—doing as she is told, being told how to think, and not being able to make decisions for herself.

As a result of her circumstances, Haru has a lot of issues with making meaningful human connections and in turn began to avoid connecting with people. It goes to prove that having the money to buy everything in the world doesn’t necessarily mean happiness. For Haru it meant giving up every aspect of her life that a young woman would have like to experience on her own. By the age of seventeen her father had even picked out her fiancé, the son of an affluent politician whom Haru has absolutely no interest in. Though she lives with all of these struggles Haru is also a gentle, nurturing, and affectionate person. She takes care of plants on the school rooftop, and takes Morgana in without question when she finds him wandering around in the streets after his falling out with the Phantom Thieves.

Haru lived this life up until her third year at Shujin academy until that night she found Morgana, a meeting that would open more doors for her than she could have possibly imagined beforehand. She knew nothing of the Phantom Thieves of Heart until she finds herself caring for Morgana— ending up in the Metaverse, and in the middle of her own Father’s palace. It’s here that Haru finds that she can be a strong young woman who can make her own decisions and become her own person.

Though unfortunately Haru finds it difficult to awaken to her true power at first, weighed down by her father’s expectations of her and the way she was raised all of her life, her persona was unable to awaken to its full potential. Essentially the heart of her rebellion was there and formed its roots, but it was unable to blossom. Despite these issues Haru was determined to take her Father’s palace herself with the help of Morgana, desperate to change him and to heal his heart. Haru is quickly found by the other Phantom Thieves and is asked to join them. But she refuses knowing what little she does from Morgana. The Phantom Thieves have lost sight of their true purpose, and she refuses to work with those who can't find a true goal for themselves.

Her awakening comes swiftly after the regrouping of the Phantom Thieves. Ryuji confronts Haru about her act when they first met up, asking her if it was just something that Morgana had put her up to at the time. Haru reveals that...no, it wasn't an act! She was trying to be a heroine of justice. She talks about how all of her life people would never have the desire to see her for who she really was, they would only be nice to her in exchange for money and presents given to them by her father. It seemed to her that people would only smile at her for their own personal gain. She idolized the idea of female superheroes on television because they were strong and fought for the sake of others and not themselves, perhaps thinking that true happiness for her could come from that. The moment is cut short by her the shadow version of her father, reminding Haru of his expectations of her. He is also joined by the cognitive version of her arranged fiance, and it becomes the catalyst for her true awakening. Haru's awakening is somewhat different, as her awakening must stem from betrayal. To release her persona is to throw away the rest of her doubts about opposing her father. Without doubt she is able to awaken her persona "Milady" to her full potential and defeat her father's palace as "Noir", a Phantom Thief of Heart who wishes to find the good in a man with such twisted morals.

Haru’s real personality shines through after the defeat of her father’s palace. Equipped with the ability to make her own choices and shine through as an individual. She becomes strong-willed by being able to cope with the aftermath of her father passing away, she becomes more confident and outspoken with her decisions regarding her arranged fiance and her future happiness. Haru is also able to find her own happiness in the way of becoming more proactive. She begins to grow different plants and vegetables in order to help her teammates in the metaverse, she becomes a problem solver, and most of all she becomes the person she was never able to be under her Father's watchful eye.

Her father's death didn't blow over without its own set of drawbacks. Haru's trouble with making meaningful connections turned into her very own set of trust issues. She feels as if she cannot trust the new CEO of Okumura Foods due to all of the rumors surrounding him. She feels as if everyone is back to smiling at her for their own gain. That is the basis of her confidant conversations with Akira, the protagonist. With his help she is able to make sense of the feelings of distrust running through her and find a new and refreshing understanding with the new CEO of her family's company— even agreeing to open a down to earth coffee shop in the process.

All in all, Haru is a girl who goes from quiet obedience to breaking her modern day chains and blossoming into the kind and confident girl she was always meant to be.

POWERS:

PERSONA- Milady.

Haru is a persona user first and foremost. A persona is described as the rebellious soul within one self. Her persona takes the form of “Milady”, a character from the story “The Three Musketeers”. Milady may look beautiful and have a regal air about her but under her large Victorian style dress she packs some heavy firearm power and a knack for psy skills.

Haru is able to use the following skills upon summoning “Milady”:

♕[Magic] Psiodyne- Heavy Psy damage to one foe.
♕[Magic] Mapsiodyne- Heavy Psy damage to all foes.
♕[Support] Makakarn- Erect a magic wall for one ally.
♕[Support] Tetrakarn- Erect a physical/gun wall for one ally.
♕[Support] Amrita Shower- Cure one non-special ailment for all allies.
♕[Gun] Triple down- light gun damage x3 to all foes.
♕[Gun] One-Shot Kill- Severe gun damage to one foe.
♕[Magic] Psy Break- break psy resistance for all foes for three turns.
♕[Passive] Psy Boost- Boost all Psy skills by 25%
♕[Passive] Climate Decorum- Double evasion on days when it is raining / special weather warnings.

OTHER: Haru loves to garden. Her gardening ability is outstanding. She mixes her own soil and with that is able to grow any kind of plant in any kind of condition. She takes pride in being able to help the Phantom Thieves with this ability by growing plants on the roof top with the Protagonist.

Another fun fact is that in battle Haru wields a two handed battle axe for her melee weapon and a grenade launcher for her ranged weapon (able to hit an entire group of enemies at once). Definitely not something that was expected from Haru.

ALSO IMPORTANT: This.




MAGIC ABILITY: The ability to create protective barriers that can take a few hits before dissolving. The drawback is the barriers become less effective after using them multiple times in one setting.

PRICE: The model kit that the Phantom Thieves brought back from her Father's palace. It's a flying saucer by the name of "Galaxy". Haru finds this very meaningful to have in her possession especially after her Father's passing.

ACCLIMATION: (6) Haru has the ability to adapt to situations where she must travel to another world. But it takes her some time to adapt to the situation. As seen in canon when she becomes used to traversing back and forth between the Metaverse and the real world, but it took her some time to come to understand the Metaverse due to the fact that her life had been so stable beforehand.
