since i have literally never done one journal style, and the recent week has pushed me into nearly 13k comments. I FEEL IT IS TIME FOR A QUESTIONS MEME. please. ask and ye shall receive.
North is pretty open about her feelings. She's not really into hiding how she feels, or what she wants unless there are reasons to do so that extend to "doing this will actively hurt someone I care about, and maybe I need to be better about that right now." So, for awhile, North decided that she wanted to be on the down low with her feelings, and try being a friend at first? Because Prim hit a lot of really great friend notes for her at the beginning! Like, she was even handed when North first got there, and while she respects WHY Mars and Joker did what they did, it's still a very useful contrast in what she wants to see in a friendship.
No immediate pressure, just let her come to her own conclusions without. Overloading her with the sense that something is wrong. And then there were more opportunities to connect and to really get to know Prim! So there was a lot of really good moments there. But a good balance was like. Those times they connected when shit sucked, to really let North get comfort from someone who probably had waaaaayyyy too much experience with that? North knew that dying sucked and that no one wanted her to experience it but then Prim was really comforting to be around, and she just wanted to snuggle her and forget her problems.
Which, she had to acknowledge to herself, was probably further than what you could call a "Friend." And then she had those moments where she knew she was flirting with Prim. She knew that Prim was receptive to the flirting, but North also didn't want to rush things to make Prim think she wasn't taking this seriously and was like... latching onto the first sign of comfort.
But after the series of bad games, North knows that really... sometimes latching onto the people you care about is really important, and it's the only way to survive hell. Prim is important to her, and she knows that that's enough for her, even if it's a pretty simplistic way of looking at things. And she wants to give Prim the support Prim gave her when she first got to Imeeji.
IF NORTH HADN'T CONFESSED... How do you think this would have gone?
