[She had helped him to the infirmary earlier with a similar problem.]
I have an equally weird question, if you don't mind. Did you experience an earthquake earlier? With explosions? Sparks? Almost like the station was falling apart?
There is a post that just appeared on the network which is relevant to the discussions we had, about the nature of this place. I'm sure you would have seen it eventually, but I thought I would draw your attention to it.
( there's some excitement in his tone. a lot more than there was the first time they'd talked, really, but still not that much. ) I found some plants. Spathiphyllum and aloe vera, respectively. Well, I didn't find them. Someone else did. Do you mind if I make use of the hydroponics you've set up?
[Well, certainly it is nice to hear a little more pep in his voice. The last time they were together she had left the meeting concerned for him.]
Prax-san, it's nice to hear from you. I don't mind at all. If you don't mind that I would tend to them from time to time to make sure they are growing well.
hey! um. this is haru, right? i realized we talked about maybe meeting up in person, but... i guess things got kind of busy?? with the meetings, and the gravity and. uh. you know. haha. it just sounds like bad excuses when i say them. type them? you know what i mean.
anyway! would you maybe want to meet up for a bit? gravity's back, which is nice for most people? i think??
also you definitely don't have to say yes! i sort of have trouble telling whether the "in person" thing is just, like, an obligation? so basically, if it's that, you like. don't have to be? obligated, i mean.
okay i'm gonna send this over before i make myself sound any dumber. haha
[this was apparently such an important development that he doesn't even elaborate. like, on where he found it. or if he already ate it. or if he plans on sharing.]
[The afternoon after all of this, Hajime makes his way to Haru's garden to look for her. He's... honestly not sure if he wants her to be here or not, or if it would be better to just say he tried to find her, and then called that good enough. It feels... wrong. Like he knows too much about things that really aren't his business.
Which is why he's here, looking for her. He doesn't know how to talk to Goro just yet, but Haru... hopefully Haru will understand why Ryuji told him. And... recruited him. That too.]
What've I gotten myself into...
[He's muttering to himself as he peeks around the plants.]
Hey, Haru? Are you here?
[He'll text her if not. Maybe. Once he musters up the resolve.]
[As predicted, Haru is in the garden. But whatever she doesn't really seem to actually be gardening. Like she can't seem to focus on anything in particular. She's tired, she's...been tired.
Everything happening lately doesn't make for any good amount of sleep.]
Hajime-san?
[She turns to lay her attention on him.] Hello there.
[boy it's like a cavalcade of blond idiots and an ahoge in here.]
[no, but look, it's like 36 hours into the pop music torture fest and feelings food feast and this combination has led Dave to start taking some really stupid worries he has into serious consideration.]
[and he knows this is probably obnoxious, but that has never exactly had an effect on his filter before. sorry, Haru!]
hey important question like completely vital kinda inquiry over here ryo said that plants have different reactions to sounds but he said it way more longwinded and fuckin scholarly than that has anybody tried rapping at the plants in the garden before try to save them from the spice girls
[HE WANTS HIS SCIENCE EXPERIMENT TO LIVE, HARU. HELP.]
Are you sure Asuka-san isn't just messing with you? I suppose plants could have different reactions to sounds, but I'm not sure what sort of time has to be given for sounds like that to take effect.
[As usual when Hajime wants to talk to Haru, he doesn't bother texting first. He's just going to check the garden; first the one she'd set up, then the other one they'd found on the station. He kind of wants to surprise her with what he'd found, after all, and texting her would ruin the surprise!
There's a small wooden box in his hand that he's holding behind his back as he peeks inside.]
Hey, Haru? Are you here?
[If not, he'll just come back later. It's fine! He's not nervous or anything!!]
[See, luckily for Hinata. Haru happens to be in the garden that they originally set up. Moving things around and seeming like she is going to move some stuff from this garden to the bigger one on the station.
She's thankful their little set up isn't going to have to overwork itself much longer.]
[Erika's room is like most other singles on the station. It smells faintly like her, like every room does of its occupant; there's a futon mattress rolled up under the desk, unless it's spread out across the floor for sitting or lounging on, and either way it's completely inculcated with fine blue Digimon fur. Everything is, because of Li, the Wanyamon, who lounges on the desk or the bed or in the shower or wherever it damn well pleases. A spare hoodie jacket hangs like a banner on the wall, the Hudie logo on its back proud white on blue.
It's home, which really sunk in for Erika when Hajime helped her limp through the door and she looked around and felt relief. She should return to the medbay before everyone goes to sleep, but a day here can't hurt. Where her nerves are concerned, it can only help.
Haru's occupation of room 3-17 is a new development and that makes her sort of a guest, though Erika's condition leaves her favoring the bed and not in the best shape to be a graceful host. Then again, she has never in her life been a graceful host. Hospitality in the territory of Erika Mishima is something soft to sit on, a Digimon demanding to be pet, a high tolerance for awkward silences, and a conversational topic that originated somewhere on a screen.
Today it happens to be food, since the last time they talked about anything other than being completely fucked up by a metallizing virus, it was about tea. Have you ever wanted to know the vital role of glucose in brain chemistry, Haru? Because that's where this headed the moment sweets even looked in the direction of being a topic to be raised.]
...An excess actually damages long-term memory, though. It sets off kind of a premature aging effect.
[Leaving the safety of her own room was something pretty hard for Haru. She had been holing herself in there ever since Ryuji carried her back from the Gardens. Unable to walk or move for quite some time... and while the recovery time for her was pretty quick, she still remained with piece of metal and a whole lot of pain.
She comes at the suggestion of Hajime, who would have rathered Haru and Erika not be alone... and Haru takes residence on that Futon on the floor. She didn't want to take space up on a bed where Erika was already in enough pain. Wanyamon did catch her attention pretty quickly. So soft? So nice? She's never seen anything like Wanyamon.
Their conversation about sweets, it was normal as normal could be right now.]
[Since finding it, Gundam's been visiting Haru's garden trying to get his pumpkins to grow. Granted he's never planted pumpkins before. He has no idea how long it takes to grow them. Or what he should or should not be doing to them.
... Are they actually growing? It's hard to tell.]
Have I not sated you? ...what is it that you desire from me, you odious melons? Do you fear your inevitable fate? Is that why you betray my effort?!
[Surely this can't be more complicated than caring for the creatures of the netherworld-- he's GUNDAM TANAKA!!!
...yet for all his talent with understanding animals, he has no aptitude in hearing the gentle voices of plants.]
[It would be Haru's luck to come upon this scene in the gardens, wouldn't it? Odious melons? Betraying effort? It sounds like someone was having trouble growing something.
She... remembers this mans face. She remembers the weird things he spoke of while they were sleep deprived. Haru had never before wanted to sky rocket out of a conversation so quickly— though she attributes that to her sore lack of sleep.]
[Of all the nights he hadn't asked Haru to stay over, it would be when Venus did her weird midnight broadcast. The one that Hajime had all but forgotten about until he'd went for breakfast the next morning to hear a hot single woman in his area whispering right into his ears.
Erika lives on his floor, so it's Erika he checks on first. And it's learning that one of his best friends has turned into a mass of butterflies that eventually sends him up to Haru's room, knocking on the door before realizing that oh, she could be anywhere right now. He knocks, but also pulls up her inbox on his communicator to send her a text.]
hey haru? want to hang out?
[And he's also realizing as soon as he hits send that if she is in her room, he's going to look dumb at best, desperate at worst. He's just-- scared. Afraid of what could happen to the people he cares about.]
